This is not a typo and it may seem disjointed to some (and perhaps in some ways it is but it’s old so give it some...

Well this was well worth spending north of $50 for a 22 year old Saint Emilion from an good vintage. I'm impressed with the way it's hung in with some fruit (albeit dried) still showing through, but it's a bit player now with secondary and tertiaty flavours abounding and astounding. There's an old musty rancio element that mimicks cork taint, but isn't. Savoury, umami, soy, teriyaki, earth, leather, tobacco, vanilla and cocoa. Tannin is still holding on by the fingernails. Complex, evolved and long. July 2017.
A wine nearing the end of its time, but an excellent way to show what age does to a bottle. The flavours have evolved beyond pure fruit to evoke earth, smoke, leather and mushrooms. There is a real sense of umami here. The colour of the wine was also a beautiful garnet with amber on the edges. Worth the price to drink 22+ year old wine at Christmas.
Wine was corked and undrinkable...what a waste.
