As usual, an extraordinary value from Dr. Hermann and the great Treppchen vineyard. It would really be hard to...

Lovely colour with some spritz, grapefruit, petrol on the nose. Beautiful fruit on the palate but a little sweet. 89pts. Second day: Still some spritz. Nice fruit and spices on the nose. Beautiful brown sugar and spices on the palate. Sweetness seems to have integrated. Almost spatlese in character. Good length. 91 pts.

This is delicious, a brilliant example of off-dry Mosel Riesling. The aromas are rich and abundant, with lemon-lime and pear-apple providing the balanced citrus-orchard fruit duality that distinguishes the varietal, but there is also sufficient petrol and minerality, as well as a pleasant spritz, to cut through the sweetness, and everything is bathed in glorious honey notes. It is luscious in the mouth, a combination of mead and ice wine but with textural restraint alongside the intense flavours, with peach and grapefruit adding even more layers of fruit. Immensely appealing, for the style.

The 2010 Dr. Hermann Erdener Treppchen Kabinett Riesling has seductive aromas of honey, petrol, slight burnt match and linden on the nose as well as gooseberry and petrol on the finish. It is a medium bodied, medium-sweet, fruity to integrated wine; with acidity that is not able to balance the body and sweetness, and a medium to long, finish. This wine is both, food friendly and a sipper; drink now to 2020 – no further cellaring potential (screw cap enclosure). My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 89 pts – recommended for its value. Tasted in Mar/15.
