The 2013 Marisco Vineyards Ned Pinot Noir, sourced from the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough, has appealing aromas of spice, rosehip and pomegranate on the nose and cranberry and pomegranate on the palate. It is a medium bodied, extra-dry/dry, fruity wine; with forward/tangy acidity, refined tannins and a medium finish. Drink this wine with food; drink now and for the next 3-5 years (screw cap enclosure). My impression: NICE, 88 pts. Tasted in May/14 at 'Tasted during New Zealand in a glass tasting' http://grapeselections.com/new-zealand-fair-2014/.

Lovely nose of dark cherry, raspberry, red plum, strawberry, violet, menthol, sage, smoke, anise, nutmeg, forest floor, and just a bit of oak influence (vanilla and cocoa). A bit hot and boozy on the palate, though fresh flavours of tart dark cherries and red plum still manage to dominate. There is more cocoa on the palate than on the nose, along with a sense of crushed stone emerging. Medium high acids and at least medium tannins reign in the alcohol a bit. Medium long, red fruit, cocoa, and tobacco tinged finish. The high alcohol seems to detract from the wine's balance a bit.
