Fina Taif Zibibbo 2011, Igp Sicilia

With a very Moorish looking label, the Sicilian stunner is a steal at under $17. Produced from the varietal Zibbido or otherwise Muscat of Alexandria, this dry style is immensely flavourful. Great depth, body and viscosity with a concentration of fruit to match. Little oak allowing the purity of the fruit to show quite nakedly and in an opulent manner. Despite the generosity of the wine there is also a solid core of acidity and a touch of dustiness reminiscent of the old world. A great deal to appreciate here. Deep golden colour in the glass, the wine has incredible aromatics that range from stone fruit and pineapple (more towards dried than fresh), ginger, and floral notes. On the palate, it's dry with refreshingly high acidity and quite viscous with the stone fruit and spice jumping out. It's got nice length, though I found the finish to be a little bitter. Definitely a head-turner of a wine though at a spectacular price. It needs to be paired with similarly intensely flavoured foods, such as a Southeast Asian-spiced fish dish. Tasted March 2013.
Nicely fruity, aromatic, with a pleasant acidic bite.
