Reichsgraf Von Kesselstatt Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese 1999, Prädikatswein

It's rare indeed to see a 14 year-old German riesling on the shelf, and at under $20 you can't afford not to try -...
Very mature and already candied, there's no point in cellaring this further. Barley sugar and sautéed citrus segments...

Beautiful
The 1999 Reichsgraf Von Kesselstatt Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese has intense notes of yellow apple and lifted notes of estery petrol; also light, buttery champione notes emerge on the finish of excellent length. It has a medium, integrated body and a good balance between residual sugar (medium sweetness), acidity and fruit. Enjoy on its own for the next 3-5 years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 90 pts - 14 year old Riesling for $20 translates into BUY BUY BUY before it’s sold out! Tasted Feb/13.

A '99 Piesporter for less than $20, this Riesling should deserve a 90 for the value alone. With 14 yrs of aging already done for you and years of vibrant life still left in the bottle, you would be silly not to pick this up. It is quite delicious and the crushability factor on this 8.5% alc is very high. Beautiful medium gold colour in the glass. the aromas are classic slate and lime, apricot and a touch of wheat. Surprisingly the petrol note is mild, almost like the wine went through an intense petrol stage but is now gone just leaving behind a memory. Will hold 5+yrs. Tasted Mar '13
Tasted December 2013.
