Man O' War Warspite 2010, Ponui Island
Red Blend
New Zealand
$45.00
This is the debut vintage of the first red wine from Ponui Island, a neighbour to Waiheke Island. It was planted by the Spence family who own the entire eastern edge of Waiheke. The grapes are transferred to Waiheke by barge, timed to the tides. This is a juicy, ebullient red lead by cab franc at 61%, merlot 23% and malbec 15%. The nose is terrific, packed with fresh red fruit, plum, mulberry plus some tobacco and toast. some toast. It’s medium-full bodied, quite open and delicious with a fine acid seam and moderate tannin, The length is excellent. Best 2013 to 2018.
