Laurence Feraud Plan Pegau 2010, Rhone
Rhone Red Blend
Rhône, France
$15.05 (312991)
Three bottles of this, or one bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape? No brainer. Domaine Pegau is an important property in Chateauneuf- du-Pape. This much lower-priced, grenache based red by proprietor Laurence Feraud uses de-classified CDP fruit plus some from Costieres de Nimes. The result in this excellent vintage is a surprisingly rich, juicy yet firm and well balanced red with classic grenache plum-strawberry fruit, pepper and typical Rhone 'garrigue'. I really like the composition despite some heat and ragged tannin that should soften with a couple of years age. There is even a hint of minerality on the finish. Very good to excellent length. It's only wine but I like it
Very typical south Rhone blend, with notably ripe red fruits, hints of black pepper and local herbs. Solid finish with even a faint hint of sweetness, though I that is more due to the ripeness of the fruit than much residual sugar. Needs a bit more complexity and structure to rate higher but a good value in any case. Tasted March 2013.
